CV gaps
CV gaps for Graphic Designer
Graphic designer CVs often rely on the portfolio to do all the work and give the reader little to go on in the text. Give a visible portfolio link, say what you were responsible for, and name the clients and outcomes you can.
The 4 gaps to check
Portfolio link hard to find
Why it matters: A reader may never open a vague "available on request" line.
How to close it honestly: Put a clear portfolio address near the top as plain text, so it can be read and copied.
Role in each project unclear
Why it matters: A team project could mean concept, layout or final artwork.
How to close it honestly: Say what you did, for example "designed the packaging and prepared files for print".
Clients and results missing
Why it matters: Recognisable names and outcomes add trust.
How to close it honestly: Name clients you are free to name, and add a result such as a campaign launch or a sales change, if true.
Software without context
Why it matters: Listing Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign tells little.
How to close it honestly: Link each to the type of work you produced with it.
Questions that find your real evidence
- Which project would you show first, and what did you do on it?
- Which client brief was hardest?
- What did your design change for the business?
Only add what is true. If you cannot back a line up with a real example, leave it out.
