The 4 gaps to check
No samples
Why it matters: Writing is judged on the work itself.
How to close it honestly: Link to two or three published pieces or a portfolio, and say what each was for.
Audience and channel unclear
Why it matters: Blog posts, email and product copy are different jobs.
How to close it honestly: Name the channels and the audience you wrote for.
Results not stated
Why it matters: Without any outcome, the work is hard to rank.
How to close it honestly: Add true results such as traffic, sign-ups, rankings or engagement, with the period, if you have them.
Specialism missing
Why it matters: Generalists and specialists are hired differently.
How to close it honestly: Say the subjects you know well and any editing or SEO work you have done.
Questions that find your real evidence
- Which piece are you proudest of, and where can it be read?
- Who was it written for?
- What happened after it was published?
Only add what is true. If you cannot back a line up with a real example, leave it out.
